Police Telecommunicators independently handle all types of emergency 911 calls, dispatching police officers for timely response to emergency situations which may be potentially life-threatening in nature. Initial assignments, with guidance, usually involve: responding to telephone inquiries by recording appropriate information, determining priority of assignment, and relaying information to proper source.  Dispatching police officers to respond to calls for assistance which are of a routine or emergency nature, providing special instructions as necessary, maintaining radio contact with and status of numerous police officers assigned to a geographical section of the County providing assistance to police officers in the form of license number and address verifications, data from police reports, directions, pertinent information concerning emergencies, and contacting other public safety agencies making inquiries into local, state and national databases to obtain/record information on arrest warrants, driver history, stolen property, missing persons, vehicles, firearms, etc. reassigning incidents to other or additional police units as priorities, needs and conditions change.
